Video Transcript for In-Depth Review of the Blue Ox 7' Safety Cables

Today we're going to be taking a look at the Blue Ox 7-foot safety cables. These come as a quantity of two and offer and 10,000lb-per-cable weight rating. Part number is BX88197. These heavy duty safety cables are going to be be perfect solution for replacing old, worn out our even damaged safety cables. We have aircraft grade cable that's going to run through the center. That's what gives us that great 10,000lb-per-cable capacity, and then you'll see a nice rubberized coating over the cable.

That's going to prevent any scratching or abrasion of our tow bar. Got nice, wide hooks, should fit around any type of hitch you might have and any kind of safety chain connection you might have on your tow bar, and you'll see the keepers are going to keep them in place. That's spring loaded there. Where once it's in place, we won't have to worry about it coming off. You see we'll just connect that around our hitch. We like to cross them.

Bring it back, connect it there. You'll see that coiled design. That's going to allow us to extend these out to seven feet in total length, but it's going to coil up to keep it up off the ground so we can run them underneath our tow bar without having to worry about them hanging up or dragging them on the ground. Other side clipped in here. Now, we'll have plenty of room on the top where we can run our electrical coils, our air line or whatever other cables back to the vehicle that we need to without our safety cable interfering, and that's going to complete our look at the Blue Ox 7-foot safety cables with 10,000lb-per-cable weight rating.

Part number is BX88197.

  • Flat Towing a 2015 Jeep Wrangler with custom Front Bumper with D-Ring Attachments
I do have a solution for you but Roadmaster adapter # RM-035 fits D-ring mounting holes that are 7/8 inch or 1 inch in diameter that have taps that are 3/4 inches thick as opposed to holes that are 3/4 inches in diameter so they would not work. There isn't an adapter that would work with 3/4 inch diameter holes. What I recommend is to install the Blue Ox universal base plates, # BX88266, and then use adapter # BX88310 which will fit the Demco Commander tow bar. If you do not have safety...

  • Base Plate Kit Recommendation for a 1998 Jeep Wrangler Sport Automatic and a Remco Tow Bar
Based on my research, your Remco tow bar should be compatible with all Blue Ox base plates, so for your 1998 Jeep Wrangler Sport, I would recommend the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit, # BX1118. I would also recommend verifying that your tow bar is compatible with Blue Ox base plates. This base plate kit is compatible with the U-channel or double tube bumper. Before you install a base plate kit, I recommend checking your vehicle owners manual for flat tow compatibility. There may be certain restrictions...

  • Parts Needed to Flat Tow a 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 or 2009 Wrangler Using a Roadmaster Falcon 2 Tow Bar
It sounds like you have a Falcon 2 Tow Bar # RM-520 that came with your Class A motorhome. The Falcon 2 is rated up to 6,000 pounds so you'll want to make sure your Ram doesn't exceed that. Depending on how its equipped it very well may. Also, make sure your RV is rated high enough to tow the Ram. What you need on your 2008 Dodge Ram 1500 is a base plate kit that will connect to the tow bar. If your truck is a MegaCab # 277-1A will work for you and if you the truck isn't a MegaCab...

First, before flat towing your 2011 Mini Cooper, be sure the tires are filled to the recommended psi and in good condition. More importantly, be certain your steering column is not locked; if your tires are unable to turn they would wear out quickly. If you think your safety cables may be an issue, and yours are shorter than 7', an option would be the Blue Ox Blue Ox 7' Safety Cables # BX88197. • What Kind Of Safety Cables Are Included With The Blue Ox Base Plate BLU37UR
Good question. The Blue Ox Base Plate # BLU37UR for the 2023 Ford F-250 does indeed come with a pair of cables. These cables are actually part of the installation hardware, and are not the tow bar safety cables. The included cables are called "permanent safety cables" and are used to help secure the base plate to the frame of the vehicle. You can see this in step 5 of the instructions which is pictured below. If you are in need of a pair of safety cables to go with your tow bar, I recommend...

There is a trim level of your 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee that can be flat towed. You are able to flat tow a Grand Cherokee model with the Quadra-Trac II/Quadra-Drive II with 4-Lo Range. With regard to the special kit for the power steering, there was a Mopar tech bulletin (08-022-16) that states that if your vehicle was built after February 16, 2016, that kit is not necessary. The Blue Ox 1/2" Quick Link # BX229-0512 that you referenced is perfect for use with the 7,500 lb Blue Ox safety chains # BX88197 or # BX88208. This quick link has a 10,000 lb weight capacity so it will not limited the capacity of your safety chains. If you are needing a quick connect for a different application then I recommend the Safety Chain Quick Link # C82932 which is rated for 16,500 lbs and has a 3,300 lb safe working load limit. • Can I Use Safety Cables Instead of Safety Chains to Tow a 7300 lb Trailer
You can use safety cables instead of chains if your trailer is under the weight rating of the cable. The safety cables are made from nylon coated steel. I do not recommend using the Curt 7500 lb rated safety cable part # C80176 because that would be cutting it pretty close with the weight of your trailer. I recommend Blue Ox Hook Safety cables part # BX88197 that are rated for 10,000 lbs. The higher up you go in weight rating with safety cables the longer the cables get. The Blue Ox cables...

  • Quick Link Recommendation for 7,700 lb Safety Chain Application
The Curt quick link part # C82932 has two ratings. 3,300 lbs where it is safe to be used at all the time without fatiguing it and the break strength which is 16.5k. Two of these would be good for 6,600 in a safe load limit. For a safety chain situation where it's going to be all the capacity at once plus some inertia I'd not recommend them. The part # BX88197 is a similar 1/2 inch diameter link that is designed for use with 10k safety cables so it would be the better option.
